Career paths... by Tris

If I could go back and start this whole job thing again, I'd definitely consider becoming a cop in the States, work permits and visas permitting. I'd have to be in a big city and work my way up from a naïve rookie patrolling the mean streets, to being a surly, battle-hardened detective in homicide, who sticks it to the man at every chance he gets.

You have to understand, I'm not after the job for the danger, the power, the sense of well-being you get from making peoples lives better, the doughnuts, or the power-crazed thrill of smacking someone upside the head with a nightstick, no I'm in it for one simple reason:

To be able to walk into a room and say, "Detective Kaplowski, homicide".

Yeah, for those of you that know me, I know that isn't my real surname and to be frank - I don't want my real surname put on the blog - ok. But I couldn't walk into the room and announce, "Detective [insert real name], homicide" because it doesn't sound cool enough.

And yeah, Kaplowski doesn't sound too cool either. Maybe Eastern European isn't the way forward in cool cop names, maybe I should stick a Mc in front of it. McClain, he was cool, and I'd probably look fine in a ripped white vest. Hmmm, the endless possibilities...

Hey! Eastern European surnames are the best.

You'd look hot in a police uniform *drool*
