Dear School Governing Body (or whoever decided half term should be in the first week of June),
I have been very excited about my friend from up North coming down specially for my birthday. So excited in fact, that I have been trying to think of fun things to do. Not only to make sure she has fun but to also ensure that I have a great day on my 21st birthday.
Ponder followed thought followed contemplation followed deliberation when 'pow' I had it. I have the day off, he is coming up and Northern chick and pal are coming down. There'll be 4 of us that's a nice even number. We ideally want something fun....Let's go to Chessington.
You see then I started to get excited. It'll be on a work day so there'll be hardly any queues and children, scummy, giggley, whinging children.
I proceeded share my idea with him and Northern chick and they both thought it was an excellent idea. I was left with a warm, joyful feeling in my stomach.
Then there it was I had an ASOM (American Soap Opera Moment). That moment of realisation where everything is not all it seems to be and big DUN DUN DUNs play out to the audience.
I looked at my rather handy wall planner to be reminded that my birthday actually falls right bang in the middle of half-term. My great idea has been tainted.
There will be horrid children running amuck. Screaching and chewing gum with their mouths open. Queues as far as the eye can see.
I am crushed.
So Mr/Mrs/Miss School Governing Body (or whoever decided half term should be in the first week of June), thank you for giving the brats yet more time off school. Can you not see that this is very bad for them? They already moan that they do not have anything to do outside school and when they start working they'll be in for a huge shock when they only get 25 days a year to themselves. I thought school was suppose to prepare you for adulthood.
Shame on you.
Unkind regards
Her.
NB: Thanks to Northern Chick I am still going to Chessington on my birthday as there has been promise of ice cream.

LOTS!
Besides, I promised to bring you something nice for your special day soooo...paintguns and water pistols it is! We shall hunt the little buggers and make em wish they were learning latin! Muhahahaha
Tee hee I be so excited!
Posted by: silk at April 27, 2005 05:13 PMI'm in two minds about school holidays. Living with a teacher, I can see how they need the break from the brats, but when he's on half term and I have to get up for work - that's torture!
So, on balance, I agree - let's abolish half term!
Posted by: witho at April 28, 2005 09:25 AMHooray!
I feel a petition coming on! ;-)
Posted by: Celeste at April 28, 2005 11:10 AMThen again mate. At least when you were at school your birthday fell during half term so you didn't get egg and floured (or whatever arcane celebratory ritual your school practised).
Posted by: Rad at April 28, 2005 12:21 PMOnly bad things happen to boys at my school on there birthdays.
It's true though I had the best parties as my birthday was in half term my mum let my pals and I stay up really late.
I was totally cool.
