Plumbing is so the way forward.
It's easy, only requires 18 months of training and you can make an absolute mint.
Over a week ago, a plumber came round and diagnosed that the reason my hot water cylinder was now just a water cylinder was because the bit that heats up the water had broken.
Shit. No. Really?
That little gem of plumbing knowledge cost me 35 quid. However the other gem of plumbing knowledge that I found out next myself was free - the firm that made my water cylinder went bust 10 years ago and there are no spares.
I'm looking at 500 quid for a new cylinder plus fitting at 150 pounds (cheapest of three and recommended by a friend).
Now, both my dad and I reckon we could fit the new one ourselves but it is a case of confidence. Yep, I've had to be a grown up, I found the cylinder, I've ordered it and I've made out like I know what I'm doing, I also found out that I need a direct rather than indirect cylinder and what the difference is between the two, I've got plumbing quotes and organised it all. The cylinder comes with fitting instructions which are now sitting in front of me and it doesn't look too bad.
Hmmm, the 150 pound question. Do we chance it, or do we get the pros in?
Anything else and I'd do it myself, but the most important thing to realise when doing DIY is when you're out of your depth. Mains water pressure, 80 degree water, 500 pounds worth of kit - you bet your arse I'm out of my depth. Time to stump up the cash and be done with it.
Fingers crossed for Friday…
(PS - The reason why I haven't used the pound symbol is because it appears as a ? is most browsers, for some reason...)
