It looks very much like my company is going to be taken over by another company who are looking to expand into the markets we currently operate in. This is no longer a secret and all information I'm giving here is freely available on the web, except the company names, I'll keep those to myself, heh.
The new company (who coincidentally I have an account with!) have already stated that there will be cut backs in our head office, they've mentioned that dreaded word, "Outsourcing" and have also stated that they could move the IT function (but not the staff, damn) to my homeland - all this even though there is no cross-over between our two companies.
Of course, nothing has been finalised yet, the new company haven't looked at us properly and if stuff did happen, it wouldn't start happening for at least 6 months.
The question is; do I hang around here and wait to see what happens, hoping that if there are redundancies then the pay off is good - or do I leave now and beat the rush and potentially leave a good job and a great redundancy payment behind?
On the plus side, I work in the, "Doing and helping other people do IT" part of IT, rather than the, "Project mis-management and spreadsheet colouring in" part. I see this as a distinct advantage if only for the short term, certainly there are more employers looking for Braves rather than Chiefs.
We'll see. Maybe I should start digging out my interview war paint, but for now I'll hang tight, try (in vain) to cut costs and wait.
Oooh, you must tell me all about it on Saturday - you *are* still going, aren't you?
Posted by: anxious at September 12, 2005 09:13 PMWill do - see you there!
Posted by: Tilesey at September 12, 2005 09:17 PMI'd stay and hope for the payout. I may come along on Saturday, will you still be there late, I'd have to come after work which would finish about 8pm.
Posted by: H at September 13, 2005 01:26 PMBe good to see you again H - Might be best if I gave you mine or Celeste's number because I don't know whether everyone would still be at that pub at 8, or would have moved on to a restaurant or somefink.
Email me at tilesey at gmail dot com and I'll send it to you.
Posted by: Tilesey at September 13, 2005 02:04 PMYou're probably in London having fun right now and I'm sitting in bed nursing the worst hangover known to man.
Stick out the job, if you stay, fabulous, if they cut you then you get a peachy redundancy payout, sorted :)
