Whilst surfing the world of blogs today I came across this link. I thought it was a smashing idea and so filled in the form. I feel I owe a lot to blogging as it's how I met one of my best pals, who I love to pieces and my hunky man, who I also love to pieces (but sometimes think is a bit weird when he posts about the number 13!).
I then decided to scroll down and read the various comments that other bloggers/blog readers/stalkers/man-monkeys etc have left thus far.
Most were fairly pleasant. Some were just trying to get more readers to their sites and a few were pretty negative towards blogging.
This comment, particularly stood out: "Blogs: Badly written, mundane drivel from under-informed, over-opinionated people. All the digital revolution has achieved is to give a platform to the "me, me, me" generation. It has given the pub door a megaphone.
Stuart, UK"
I have to say I agree with most of that remark. There are so many really awful blogs out there. There are only a few blogs I read on roughly a daily basis that I consider to be interesting to me.
I suppose I read blogs for different reasons to some other people. Blogs I read and enjoy are ones from genuine sounding people. I enjoy getting a feel for what life has dealt to other people. Two of my good friends blog and I enjoy reading about what they have got up to.
I do not read blogs which tend to talk about politics. I don't read blogs which have short stories etc. I don't read blogs that harp on about current affairs. Not because I feel they are rubbish or badly written but because I view blogs as an online diary. Somewhere for people to write down their thoughts or annecdotes. If I want to read fictional tales I'll buy a book. I like books. They make train journeys faster.
I have no desire to read about politics or current affairs because I find it difficult enough as it is to stay cheerful. I could go on and on about how corrupt and bollocks the worl is but I am the kind of person who tries really hard to look on the positive side.
I have nothing against people who blog about politics, current affiars or those who write short stories, there're just not my cup of tea.
My blog is a hobby. I don't update it everyday as I have a life in the 'real world' and it's completely impossible for me to find the time to post something interesting everyday. I stare at a PC all day at work, the last thing I want to do is go home and stare at one.
So when I get spare time and I have something I feel I want to post about I do. I don't use my blog to vent out my political opinion. Perhaps if I were interested in writing a bit more (my passion lies with making things) and I decided to use my blog to show case my writing skills I'd be a bit more interested in choosing that blogging route and I'm just not that passionate about blarbing on about what some people consider as intelligent converstaion. I'm a bright girl but I don't see the point about talk about my love of english literature or ancient and modern history.
So this is me. An average (yet devestatingly fit) 21 year old who is bobbing through life. I occasionally am a clutz and have a funny story or two about silly things I've done, I don't talk about how totally amazing sex is with Tilesey because that's something private and that just Tilesey and I share (it has nothing to do with the fact my mum reads this blog (Hi mum! *waves*) or that my ex boyfriend/bestest pal reads it either.). I'm not single so I can't write about all the crazy things single people do and complain that I'm single. I'm totally lucky to have found someone who treats me fantastically well. Sorry. I'm not the wrong side of 25 so can't disscuss anti-wrinkle cream or how I should really be settling down as my body clock is ticking blah blah blah.
I am me. I live in the non glamourous town of Reading, soon to be the even less glamourous city of Southampton (ooooh I'll see my boy oodles!), occasionally funny, sad, stressful, exciting and strange things happen to me and I tend to blog about them.
The end.

A lot of blogs are bollocks. I quickly got bored of pressing, "Next blog" on BlogSpot and also doing Blog Explosion.
I also skip all, "Agony aunt" posts - I get my advice from the always well-written GQ, and it seems to keep you happy!
Glamourous town of Reading! Pissed myself.
Posted by: Tilesey at July 20, 2005 03:41 PMThere are as many reasons for blogging as there are bloggers.
Just as there are books you'll never want to read, newspapers you'll never want to pick up, TV programmes or whole channels you'll never want to watch, there are blogs of all kinds written for different reasons by different people. There is an audience for all these different blogs, but not all blogs can appeal to everyone.
Everyone has their own way of telling their own story. Just stick to your way and as long as it's not harming anyone and is something you enjoy, there's not a lot anyone can say about it.
Posted by: witho at July 20, 2005 07:17 PMIt's all rather personal isn't it. There are people you will find interesting and people you wont. Those who choose to belittle blogs either could not come up with an iota of inspiration to write one or consider the opinions of every other person in the world 'boring'.
It's a hobby, a form of communication and a damn good way to engage in some friendly banter and creativity. Go forth and blog people, but only if you have the time ;)

I find that list is getting shorter over time. I don't read political blogs, sports blogs, or blogs that use poor grammar or too many smiley faces etc. But I do reject that blogs should be excused over all as "not literary". There's a lot of good writing out there, you just have to look for it.
