After paying 280 of those English pounds for a new clutch (including labour and VAT) and being told that the car needs another 100 quid spent on it for something else, I've started to resurrect my desire for a shiny new car.
For the last 5 years I have driven a car which will get me from A to B reasonably quickly, safely and reliably, but with very little style. She isn't a fancy car, she isn't a car I can really be proud of, she is in fact a hand-me-down car from my parents and even when new, she was never cool, just sensible. At 11 years old and with 71,000 miles on the clock both Nicole and Papa have long since left the building and I think it is time for the old girl to be left out to graze and for something more manly to take her place.
Now I like German cars, I also like cars with a bit of power, style and preferably with a retractable roof. Fuck it, I'm 25, I haven't heard the words, "I'm pregnant" for quite a while and dammit I want a non-sensible car. Even my dad agrees, and he never agrees with spending money.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the car I will be test driving on Saturday:

In the words of the great Team America, FUCK YEAH!
I hope you aren't having a mid life crisis. First the new sporty car then a younger girlfriend.
The car fine but the younger girlfriend? You'd be arrested.
Posted by: Celeste at June 30, 2005 01:44 PMC - you're fine mid-life crisis = motorbike ... speaking of which ;-)
Posted by: Rob at June 30, 2005 03:00 PMI'm not really into cars, even though it's all part of my day to day job.
The Audi TT convertable however, is a 'nice' car.
I can give you some buying tips if that will help.
Posted by: bedshaped at June 30, 2005 10:33 PMYay for quater life crisis, just so long as you don't get itin red, all should be good :D
Posted by: Fern at July 1, 2005 01:26 AMAh yes. One of those Audi type cars.
I drove the exact same type of car a few months back and I spent most of the drive farting about with the seat height as I'm a bit 'Ungainly'. I felt like 'Jaws' driving that convertible in the James Bond film.
Posted by: Greavsie at July 1, 2005 01:40 PMMy mother has an Audi TT and she drives it like a granny. When she goes on holiday I take it out and give it a good ragging. Like it should be driven. You can almost hear it saying "thank you, thank you!".
Posted by: Geyvid at July 1, 2005 03:58 PMHmmmm.. I think that is a car which is mostly driven by hairdressers...
Posted by: elmo at July 4, 2005 02:13 PMThere are only a few convertables that a straight man can get away with drving and I am afraid the Audi TT is not one of them... the Coupe yes, but convertable no, no, no...
Now the 350Z convertable, yes you can... It's a very good car as well...
Posted by: Mark at July 4, 2005 03:02 PMHmmm if it was a pink jeep I'd agree mark but a car is a car.
Now straight men in pink shirts-that's so very very wrong.
*shivers*
Posted by: Celeste at July 4, 2005 03:11 PMNah, Elmo and Mark, you're both wrong.
I don't believe in this, "hairdresser car" bollocks. The only thing that makes a car girlie is the colour, nothing more.
That car was fucking excellent fun, with the top down and with the top up :-)
Posted by: Tilesey at July 4, 2005 03:33 PMI can wear a pink shirt as I am secure with my masculinity...
I hate the term hairdresser car and that wouldn't be how I describe it.
Anyway which version is it? 180bhp, 225Bhp or the 150bhp? If it's the 180 or 150 avoid. If it's a 225 look to pay around £20k but remember it's a group 18 insurance so shop around for a decent quote. My car is group 18 and I went with admiral, £600 fully comp with 6yrs PNCD.
Posted by: Mark at July 4, 2005 04:24 PMForgot to mention £20k is for Dealer, which for a car this type is the only place I go to.
Of course if you want a really good engine you may find a 3.2 V6 model but expect to pay upwards of £24k plus it's group 20 insurance. You also get Audi's fancy Direct Shift 6spd gearbox...
Posted by: Mark at July 4, 2005 04:28 PMBeing able to pull off a pink shirt has nothing to do with the fact that you're secure with your sexuality.
It is my humble opinion that men look silly in pink shirts.
I would laugh at Tilesey if he ever boughta pink shirt.
Posted by: Celeste at July 4, 2005 04:58 PM*feels slightly insecure after celeste's comment*
Maybe I should bin the pink work shirt i have...
Posted by: Mark at July 4, 2005 05:13 PM*hugs Mark* Don't feel insecure it's just my opinion.
If you like pink then you wear pink.
It's probably only me that think pink on men is wrong.
